- そこの解釈の差が論争の原因だね。man mdだと

と最初の文が意味深だが、解釈は曖昧。で、ソース見ると

とあるので、おそらく単体のリードはディスク一台分の速度、ただし
別のリードは別のディスクに分散できるのでスループットが台数に
比例して伸びる、なのでは？
