Squanto's tribe had disappeared completely while he was away. It seems that a serious epidemic of some kind had broken out,and the whole tribe was wiped out. For a time Squanto went to live with another tribe but was not happy there. When he met the Pilgrims,he seemed pleased to be among white people again.
