マジか。
やった事とエラーメッセージを書くと…

Ctrl+Alt+F6でCUIモードへ移行して、rootでログイン
init3でXを落とす？(これで落としたつもりなんだけど、間違ってる？)
再びrootでログイン
ダウンロードした場所へ移動して、sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg1.run

Licenseに同意すると、エラー
