今更ながらcompizいいね 
展開にチェック入れて、ミ田＋E したら使い勝手うｐ 
思ったより実用性高いんで驚いた

ATI X300で texture_from_pixmap 有効化できた。xgl使わずに。 
これがnativeで有効かindirect rendering上で有効かで全然描画速度とCPUへの負荷が違うね。 
 
ubuntu/8.04 使ってるので、

のページのドライバとかはすっ飛ばしてxorg.confいじるだけだった。

Intel 865Gで1920x1200表示にしたらcompizが起動できなくなりました(1280x1024では起動できていました)。 
$ compiz --replace

そもそも865GではVRAMとして使えるメモリが足りないのでしょうか?
