毎日は、記事は日本の雑誌を翻訳したものだというが、実際は信頼性のないタブロイド紙の引用だった。
Mainichi claims the articles to be translations of Japanese magazines, but actually the sources were untrustworthy tabloids.

While such articles have been deleted and Mainichi Newspapers is all out to destroy the evidence, they have been collected and saved by volunteers on the internet. So the newspaper’s attempts to cover up the case have been unsuccessful.

Now, the protests against the newspaper are spreading mainly among Japanese women, and the movement is beginning to put great pressure on the sponsors of Mainichi.

Japanese women are especially concerned because they strongly fear that the articles would make readers overseas to have vulgar sexual fantasies toward Japanese women and see them as sexual targets.

Mainichi is now having a hard time cleaning up the mess it has created. The details are summarized here in Japanese.
