He is pictured in March this year, during his time in a women's prison The prison service has apologised after a transgender sex offender was placed in an all-female prison and went on to sexually assault two women inmates.
Karen White was born a man but - despite having a history of sex attacks - was placed in women's prison HMP New Hall after telling authorities of his identification as a woman.
While in the women's prison, 'predator' White sexually assaulted two female inmates.
Prosecutors said White- who appeared in court via video link wearing a patterned blouse and glasses with shoulder-length blond hair- used a 'transgender persona' to gain access to vulnerable females.
The 52-year-old- who was previously convicted in 2001 for indecent assault and gross indecency with a child- has now been ordered to serve a life sentence for the jail sex attacks and two rapes carried out when he was still a man.
The prison service today admitted mistakes were made when White was assigned to the all-female jail.
A spokesman said: 'We apologise sincerely for the mistakes which were made in this case. While we work to manage all prisoners, including those who are transgender, sensitively and in line with the law, we are clear that the safety of all prisoners must be our absolute priority.'
■統合失調症 https://doi.org/10.4264/numa.71.369 https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/numa/71/6/71_369/_pdf/-char/ja Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness with a prevalence of approximately 1%. Its core features are delusions, hallucinations, affective flattening and disorganized behaviors. Although schizophrenia is severe psychiatric disorder, it is classified in the category of common diseases. Many studies have shown a strong genetic component for the development of schizophrenia. Heritability of schizophrenia is estimated to be approximately 80%. The mode of inheritance is multifactorial. Schizophrenia is a common and genetically complex disease. Schizophrenia research has developed rapidly in recent years. This is based on developments in the technology for molecular genetics. The advanced technologies can be used to perform genome-wide association study (GWAS) and copy number variant/variation (CNV) study. GWAS has revealed associations between schizophrenia and ZNF804A, NOTCH4 (major histocompatibility complex region: MHC), NRGN, TCF4, LSM1, BRP44, NFKB, NKAPL and TSPAN18 genes. The CNV study has found associations between schizophrenia and duplications/deletions of 1q21.1, 3q29, 16p11.2, 15q11.2, 15q13.3, 17q12 and 22q11.2 regions. The 22q11.2 deletion is the most interesting region in the genetic etiology of schizophrenia. A patient with 22q11.2 deletion is referred to as having 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS). This syndrome is also called DiGeorge/Velocardiofacial syndrome. Patients with 22q11.2DS have a high incidence of schizophrenia (~23%). Schizophrenia may exhibit etiological heterogeneity. On the basis of the GWAS and CNV study findings, we consider that there are two subtypes that are caused by many genes with low power for development (multifactorial disease) and few genes with high power (i.e., a Mendelian disease) in schizophrenia.
■ So why did this bother people? On the surface the poster appears to promote benign patriotism. As one person said on Twitter: "What's wrong with being proud of your country in your country?" But others saw it as unsettling nationalism. In recent years, right-wing conservative groups have become more vocal, advocating a move away from post-war pacifism and a revisionist take on Japan's wartime history. Japanese Twitter users have called the message behind the Kyoto poster "frightening" and "pathetic", reported news portal SoraNews24.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Friday the government is considering designating May 1 next year, when Crown Prince Naruhito will ascend the throne, as a one-off holiday, in a move that would create a 10-day Golden Week holiday period. "We will thoroughly prepare for (a series of rites) so that all the people can cerebrate," Abe told the first meeting of a government committee to work out the details of ceremonies for the imperial succession. Japanese law stipulates that a weekday sandwiched by national holidays automatically becomes a public holiday. In 2019, April 29 and May 3-6 are already assigned as national and public holidays. If May 1 is designated as a national holiday, April 30 and May 2 would become public holidays, resulting in the rare 10-day vacation period beginning April 27, which falls on a Saturday. The prime minister said the government is also considering setting Oct. 22 next year as a one-off national holiday, as an enthronement ceremony will be held that day for the 58-year-old new emperor. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said in a press conference the government will submit a bill necessary to designate the holidays "as soon as possible" to the Diet, possibly to an extraordinary session to be convened later in the month.
