この記事で、

とあるから、本来は艦が水に浮いてることで船体に圧力がかかるので、それによって船体の形が保たれるのだな。
ところが乾ドックに引き上げておいたので、歪んでしまった（たわんだ）のですな。
それで船体を支えるために、水に浮いている状態を模倣するような効果のある支柱を入れましたと。
