チボ・マットが活動を終了したことが、ユニットのTwitterやFacebookでアナウンスされた。
彼女たちにとっての最後の作品は、2014年2月に発売された約15年ぶりのオリジナルアルバム「Hotel Valentine」になるとのこと。
羽鳥美保と本田ゆかは今後ソロ活動に専念するという。
これについて彼女たちは「Hopefully you understand that this is a necessary and positive change for us（これは私たちにとって必要かつポジティブな変化だと理解してもらえるといいな）」「Our band is over but we are not going away（バンドは終わるけど、私たちはお別れじゃない）」とコメントしている。
チボ・マットは羽鳥美保と本田ゆかにより1994年にアメリカ・ニューヨークで結成されたユニット。1996年に発表されたアルバム「Viva! La Woman」が世界中で注目を集めた。
2011年6月にロサンゼルスの野外音楽堂ハリウッドボウルで行われたライブイベントで10年以上ぶりにライブ活動を再開し、同公演でYellow Magic Orchestra、Buffalo Daughter、TOWA TEIと競演。
2014年2月に約15年ぶりのオリジナルアルバム「Hotel Valentine」をショーン・レノンが主宰するChimera Musicから発表した。

We'd like to announce that Cibo Matto is moving to a new phase. Miho and Yuka wil be doing their solo works and "Hotel Valentine" will be our last album.
We'd like to thank you so much for your love and support. Hopefully you understand that this is a necessary and positive change for us. We will be going forward with our own endeavors, and we hope that we can stay in touch with you for the next part of the journey.
