been studying english for 10 years since i started putting some real effort into it, still can't even say half of what i want to say
can't even comprehend movies or youtube videos without subtitles, nor hold a meaningful conversation either
feel like a failure
i heard that the m-1 grand prix was started in part as a message for aspirational comedians out there, that if you've been doing this for 10 years and still can't make it in the competition, you'd better quit it and do something else until it's too late
i think this really hold some truth

Have any of you heard about the recent cheating scandal in chess? It's pretty wacky.
There was apparently a similar incident in shogi, but there's very little information about it in english.

I understand your pain, I feel the same way with Japanese.
At some point I felt like I had reached a sufficient "base level" of understanding.
I could kind of do what I wanted to do with the language:
I could understand (for the most part) what's going on in doujinshi.
I could contact artists to tell them that I love(d) their work.
But honestly, I'm still so far from the level that I wanted to reach... that I thought I would reach.
I'm constantly using OCR software to look up kanji that I don't know.
It takes me forever to form basic sentences, and even then the grammar is sure to be incorrect.
My vocabulary pool is laughable, as a result it's basically impossible to follow real-time conversations.
I just... became complacent. I lost the drive/pressure to continue searching for new methods of study...

809:名無しさん@英語勉強中
22/10/03 17:01:48.59 10vqMsIx0.net

810:名無しさん@英語勉強中
22/10/03 17:10:12.94 0F6V0yGvH.net
It's quite slow when you frequently need to look them up.
That, and, I never fully learned all the.. what are they called, "radicals?"
Not usually a problem, but the stroke order can get quite tricky every now and again.
Perhaps I should switch to only using hand-writing to look them up.
It might force me to remember characters more quickly.

I totally agree with you. I sometimes read a novel that includes difficult Kanji even for Japanese, and very annoyed with looking up these Kanji by stroke order or other types of search methods.
Japanese learners like you must be very frustrated even more with this so I admired your perseverance to search for Kanji.

yesterday, I cleaned up some large colonies of mold on the wall using a bleach solution.
I found there were some black colonies of around three to four square centimeters between the wall and the white wallpaper, and they can be seen through the wallpaper.
I was like, oh the weird gray spots all over my room had been mold!
they, however, can't be wiped away because they are under the wallpeper.
it's very uncomfortable, but I have to bear as it's impossible to remove all the wallpapers.
today, I woke up, and found a new gray spot of around three square centimeters had been born!
it's only ten hours after the cleaning!
creepy!
I wish it is my misconception; the spot has been there all along.

Coming from a chess background, it's strange to me that the most popular shogi app (shogi wars) allows users to pay to cheat in the middle of a game.
An app with a feature like that would be highly ridiculed in the chess world and would probably never become popular.

Chess.com found that Hans Niemann’s results in many online games were
unlikely. Many people seem sure that Niemann cheated somehow. Why?
Carlsen’s suspicions carry weight. Niemann was playing unrealistically well,
Carlsen said in a public statement.
I had thought that cheating was common practice in the chess community.

I watched the match today for the second time.
I realized the words "Do you speak English?" were uttered by Mayweather right after the KO.
I had been thinking Asakura's seconds gave the question to Mayweather. I was like "How come they could ask to their opponent what language he speaks! What were they doing while researching him."
It was, actually, Mayweather himself spoke to his opponent's seconds to have a conversation.
Then I came to think like "How come he could behave like English is the universal language!"

Born in Kokura, raised in Genkai.
I've got a big mouth, but I've got a big heart, too.
A lifetime of lawlessness, never a tear in my eyes.
I'll live on a thousand ryo of guts.
A lifetime of lawlessness.
The sound that echoed in the sky...
The beating of the drums.
The bamboo grass on the floats, the bank lamps...
The red lights of the bank lamps swaying.
Today is the Gion summer festival
The young people in their yukata
Pulling out the ropes and leading the music
The wind from the Genkai Sea
The whips are flailing left and right.
Kokura's famous name is "Muho Matsu
The Kokura nadai is a mafomatsu (a pine tree with no branches)
Don't cry, don't mourn. You're a man.
It's a love that never comes to fruition anyway.
No more complaints, no more regrets, in the Genkainada Sea.
Let the drums beat wildly
Let your dreams come true.
