A Japanese worker at a manufacturing plant died after his joking co-worker blasted wind from an air compressor up his bottom.
The victim Akio Ishimaru, 46, complained he was feeling unwell within minutes and was taken to hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
His 34-year-old colleague Yoshiyuki Yoshida was arrested, telling police he 'didn't think he could possibly die' from such an ill-fated prank.
Asia Times reported the incident happened at an industrial equipment manufacturing plant in Ibaraki Tsukuba City where Ishimaru and Yoshida worked.
The pair were 'clowning around' when Yoshida took the pipe of an air compressor and poked Ishimaru between the buttocks before injecting wind into his body.
A police spokesperson said the air compressor was 'pushed up against the anus, over clothing, not directly into the cavity'.
They suspected air released into the body damaged the victim's lungs.
Death by forcibly injecting an air compressor into a person's rear is not entirely uncommon, Asia Times added noting 'several' incidents in recent years.
Back in March, a 40-year-old Indian factory worker died from internal haemorrhaging and organ damage when fellow workers inserted an air compressor hose into his rectum when he picked up an item from the floor.
The blast prompted howls of laughter from colleagues but the man, Ravinder, stumbled and collapsed, never to recover.
It was reported powerful air compressor was used at the factory to cut through blocks of wood.
